RAIN ALL DAY

By Luis G. Dato

All day it has rained and the wind
Soughed through the leaves,
A soul of old autumns and days long dead.

All day desire in the rain is a cold remembrance
Of old autumns dark with rain,
O dead laughter of leaves,
Whirled to earth in the wind
In days when there was only remembrance
Of lost flowers and desires!

O leaves that now drip with rain in the dark!
Be dark, be dark, O remembrance of you,
Dark as a dim night in the rain,
With the voices of the past soughing through the night.

Be cold, O desire of the spring,
In the shadow of lost autumns and leaves,
Blown in the night and the rain,
O desire of death, O remembrance of leaves!
