LII

by Luis G. Dato

O let me consummate this wondrous love
That I have for you burning in my breast,
Through day and night I know I’ll find no rest,
Until in you it finds fulfillment of
What to its simple faith is willed above,
The supreme bliss which earthly powers wrest,
The longing of the warm sun for the vest,
For which the stars in the bright cosmos rove.

Love is eternal, it can’t be denied,
As soon refuse the jessamine to bloom,
Or trees to bend in winds or ocean tide
Its movement hold in the diurnal gloom,
Or the wild greenness surging through the tomb,
Or the wild rose upon the countryside.
