LXX

by Luis G. Dato

This early mass we shall be married, dear,
I kneel for the offertory,
I will for you as you kneel down with me,
Our love to God’s bright altar bring so near.
And God our sacred vows exchanged shall bear
And bind with bonds more fast than bonds can be.
In mystic ritual of matrimony,
As though Himself to us God did appear.

O doubt not nor think lightly of this vow,
To Him and to the world our hearts are one,
I take your hand in mine and kiss your brow
And your lips warm for past woes to atone,
And with this kiss that you will yield me now,
My soul, my being, would to you have flown.
