MY BARRIO SCHOOL

by Luis G. Dato

We love my school it stands beside
A rippling brook and rice fields wide,
Her dapdap flowers, arching trees
Bestow serene an air of peace.

Our school we love, in it we see
A second home that lets us be
And yet a voice, a friendly hand
That beckon to a wondrous land.

Of song and story, books and play
And birds in merry roundelay
We look upon green, distant mills
And our young heart with rapture fills.

The picture that in books we find,
They warm the heart and stir the mind,
The lore of heroes lauded there
Point to a life more rich, more fair.

And then We love our teacher too,
Though you may think not, but we do
Her tender voice, her kindly hand
Her admonitions, simple ways.

Bespeak a heart, so pure and true
We love her yes, God bless her too
For through the years her guiding hand.
Will lead us to the happy land.

She teaches us to read and write
And ever keep our ways aright,
She sees that we are neat each day.
And out of evil and harm’s day.

Above all else, our hearts she thrills
To brighter lands beyond the hills,
Of fairer skies and comelier ways
The dawn, the dawn of better days.
