IMPATIENCE

By Luis G. Dato

I hate you, ocean, and tonight,
As waters rave upon your strand,
There glowers in my eyes, a light,
A hate you cannot understand.

I loved you once, might love again
Your sobbing, sinuous guitars,
Adore once more your curling main
Of bannerrets turned upon the stars.

I made a cushion of your breast,
Where shimmered myriad clasped wings,
And crooned my anguish into rest,
An evening with your murmurings.

But I, I hate you so tonight
With hate you cannot understand,
I wish I were titanic might,
And scooped your waters with my hand.
