The church bells ring, we must our prayers say,
And go to mass to cleanse our thoughts impure,
Awake and dress, implore Him for a cure,
The magic sign that Satan keeps away.
Let us with God auspicious ope the day,
In His pure temple our frail souls immure,
For in the world alone His truth is sure,
The flock must from the Shepherd-king not stray.

But take with you unto His altar my
Importuning so pitiful and vain,
Ask Him, “Must I turn deaf ears to his sigh,
Who comes rebuffed yet still returns again?”
Perhaps He might reveal the how and why,
Like Magdalene, His portals we might gain!
