COMMENT ON THE COVER

By Luis G. Dato

Charito here shows quite too much of thighs
(Though there are those who think she shows still little),
The dispute, pro and con’s not worth the spittle,
Her pose as is draws much too many ayes
and ahs, and pops too wide in wolves the eyes.
Our priests, our prudes have tempers all too brittle,
O me, O my, she almost bares the mittel
Why in true art, one gives room for surmise.

So this we say, although the screech is over,
For heaven’s sake, for everybody’s good,–
If we were thrust the role of husband lover,
We would insist first thing, for sure, we would,
A lady is a lady with more cover,
And lovelier, too, and, shall we say, less lewd?
