NOCTURNE

By Luis G. Dato

Your fair hands swift as wings fly down the keys
To woo from solitude Night’s rhapsodies
Floating like moonlight o’er the slumbering vale,
Dappled and filigreed with flowers pale,

The music surges and dissolves in flight,
Like opening roses unseen in the night;
Like mellow notes of nightingales I hear
Songs that in blue immensities appear.

Take me awhile in the_fair flight of fingers,
In wide and starry places where song lingers,
Where death is alien since no sighs it hears,
And love’s fair face appears and disappears.

For, ever present like night’s beatitude,
Is music played in moonlight solitude
By fair hands swift like wings upon the keys
Wooing the dream of blue immensities.
