L

Leave me alone, you say. I will comply.
With this your wish, for which what would I not
Attempt, whose every care, whose waking thought
Is but to please you, nor yet question why,
Since for your whims I’d pledge both earth and sky,
If thus to you befall a happy lot.
And if you ask that I your image blot,
That also I would do though I should die.

But can I, dearest one, leave you alone,
Can I your ways in life not cross again?
I’ll be Inured my fortune to bemoan
Plod through long days to see my hopes are vain,
And if you will, now that my dreams have flown,
Help me forget, however great the pain.
