by Luis G. Dato

To me God gave you as my destiny,
The end, the essence, substance of my life,
Your fate it is to be my bride, my wife,
As to the setting sun the twilight sea.
And you shall come with me in days to be,
My harbor, comfort in the mundane strife,
Against life tragic, with injustice rife,
And in your arms griefs fade from memory.

The world can alter not, rewrite His will,
As well the sea command to leave the shore,
Or we evade His judgments to fulfill,
Praise be to Him and glory evermore,
Yet, mystery! dark doubt enshrouds you still,
And you in vain, tormented, I implore.
